Eco-friendly barrier coatings at the center of circular packaging

Barrier plays a central role in reinventing flexible packaging towards a more sustainable industry. Because in the context of circular packaging, the use of conventional barrier materials, such as Alu foil or fossil based polymers (e.g. PVdC or EVOH), is less desirable, there is a need for more ecofriendly barrier solutions. Freshure® coatings can contribute to achieving your sustainability goals towards producing recyclable, compostable & biodegradable packaging materials while at the same time maintaining efficiencies and performance:

Recyclable Packaging:

Use of Freshure® Top Coat facilitates replacement of multilayer laminates with mono-material structures suitable for recycling. For example, Freshure® Top Coat will boost the barrier of metallized PE rendering it suitable for replacement of metallized PET. Freshure® Coating itself has no negative effect on recyclability.

Compostable & biodegradable packaging:

Combination of our biodegradable Freshure® Single Coat with biodegradable films such as PHA and PLA offers the opportunity to producing fully biodegradable and compostable packaging materials. Other examples include use of Freshure® Top Coat on metallized PHA and PLA rendering defect-free metallized layers which are of critical importance for maintaining high water barrier.
