Top quality and performance with metallized films
Freshure® Top Coat
Top quality and performance with metallized films
Currently there is a clear market demand for an inline top coating process which protects the thin vacuum coated layers (e.g. Al and AlOx) , boost their barrier and add functionalities such as direct printability and constant surface tension. Suitable top coating processes are envisaged to play a central role in providing barrier solutions for mono-material structures needed for recyclable packaging. Freshure®, which is the result of years of development, is the ideal inline top coating solution offering a unique set of advantages:
- Produces defect fee vacuum coated films (important when metallizing bio-based polymeric films)
- Boosts initial barrier because of its intrinsic barrier properties
- Directly printable with both Flexography and Rotogravure using commercially available inks
- High lamination bond strength using commercially available adhesives
- Barrier retention after slitting, printing, lamination and packaging
- Suitable for retort and sterilization
- Microwavable
- Constant high surface tension independent of film type (> 56 dyn/cm)
- No loss in glossy appearance of metallized films
- Compliant with both FDA and EU regulations
- Chlorine free, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly
- Inline process with limited additional cost
- Based on inexpensive raw materials
Traditionally offline lacquering has been the method to protect AlOx but this is an inefficient process requiring additional steps outside the vacuum chamber.
As can be seen in below figures inline Freshure® Top Coat boots the initial barrier and protects it during downstream processing:
